Onyx and Pearl by Kilby Patterson / Kilby

Dear Pearl,

You were only with me for a very short time, and became a very close friend to my special sorrel horse Rick. I wanted you for life. Little did I know that your life would be so short. That morning of January 19th, 2002 was the worst day ever. Not only did tragedy take Rick instantly, but, we had to make the terrible decision to let you go too.

You were such a beautiful black mare with your nice blaze. I’m so thankful that you gave me a beautiful stud colt. His temperament is a true reflection of you and he will be sure to pass on your legacy.

I can only feel comfort that you are buried under your favorite tree with Rick. He loved you very much as do we. He was very protective of you when you were alive and will now do so for an eternity.

I can still see you running across your field and calling to me wondering if I have treats. I don’t think you walked anywhere.

Keep running, girl. You’re free.

Love Always,
Onyx and Pearl
