PATCHES by Laraine Murray / MOM

ON A COLD SEPTEMBER NIGHT
I FOUND A CAT OF BLACK AND WHITE
SHE WAS SKINNY, SCARED AND VERY COLD
AND SAID TO BE 6 MONTHS OLD.
WE TOOK HER IN WITH HOPES OF
FINDING HER A HOME.
LITTLE DID WE KNOW THAT SHE WOULD
BECOME OUR OWN.
SHE GREW INTO A BEAUTIFUL CAT.
WE NAMED HER PATCHES OR SOMETIMES PATCH.
SHE LIVED FOR ALMOST 14 YEARS.
THEN ON DAY WE CRIED OUR TEARS
PATCHES WAS NOT FEELING WELL,
WE NEEDED THEN AN ANSWER
ON MARCH 14TH WE HEARD THE WORDS
PATCHES HAD INTESTINAL CANCER
PATCHES THEN BEGAN HER FIGHT,
A HARD ROAD SHE WOULD FACE.
SHE HANDLED VERY CHEMO TREATMENT
WITH DIGNITY AND GRACE.
8 MONTHS SHE STAYED,
HER BODY NOW FRAIL AND WEAK
IT WAS TIME TO LET PATCHES GO;
SHE WAS NOW GOD’S TO KEEP
SO ON A COLD OCTOBER MORN
SHE PEACEFULLY WENT TO SLEEP
A PAIN SO DEEP WITHIN MY HEART,
IS NOW WHERE HER MEMORIES I KEEP.

WITH ALL MY LOVE,
PATCHES
