Penny by Marty Palmieri / Marty

Penny

Our golden dog saw changes in all of our lives.
She saw her two favorite boys through chores, bicycle rides, football games, scout meetings, hikes by the lake, trudging through snowdrifts, camping in the mountains.

She saw her brother being carted to Lollypop Farm for biting a passerby, and afterwards seemed to sense that someday this too, would be her fate.

Ever faithful, ever amazing this small, not very beautiful dog, who nonetheless could make you love her like no other love.

Penny would cry with you
As well as laugh.
She knew the inner reaches of the soul as no human could.

Penny is a part of my life now and still,
After all these years.
I am grateful for Penny and all the small creatures of God who come to us in time of need.

They stay a little while,
Teaching, loving, living,
Laughing and crying with us,
Selflessly allowing us to use them
Until it is over,
And they return to their maker.

With Love,
Penny
