Caring Terrier
Rags came us some time ago when he was very young.
We now have a Yorkshire terrier named Brutus who was always
very protective of Rags especially as he got older.
One day we were at the cottage and Rags was lying in his favourite
spot under the apple tree. A German Shepherd came over and
began to sniff Rags by this time Rags was already 17 and was
not able to run anymore and I thing Brutus knew that because he
immediately ran over and attacked the German Shepherd
who was about 7 times the size of him or more.
Brutus only weighs 6 pounds soaking wet.
Brutus could have been in serious trouble but all he could think
about was protecting his Buddy Rags.
I just finished my first year of college and it was very hard and
there were times when I wanted to give up and I looked at Rags and
he was such an inspiration to me because he was 17 years old,
blind and he had arthritis and he was still not willing to give up!.
I have talked to Rags about all my problems because I knew in
my heart that he was the only one who would not judge me but
would accept me for who and what I was.
The day we had Rags put to sleep was the hardest day of my life,
he was very sick and the vets wouldn’t do anymore for him.
They left us no choice I guess it was for the best.
Some say that Rags is happy now and is no longer in any pain.
I am happy that he’s not hurting anymore but of course
that doesn’t make it any easier.
One day we will be together until then I know that he
is comfortable and I feel good about that.
Love Shirley
