Rosey by Denise & Tom / Denise & Tom

My sweet little Rosey. You were dumped in the shelter by your family at 3.5 months of age. “No time” they said. Thank goodness the shelter manager had a soft spot for pit bulls. She contacted me because she wanted you placed out of town so the bad “elements” involved in the local horrific dog fighting circles would not get their hands on you. I pulled you from the shelter. Another friend, Dale, helped me to fund your spay surgery so you could go to a new home right away. The moment I picked you up in my arms, I vowed to always be there for you and to protect you. I placed you in the most wonderful home any dog could ever dream about.

You had a K9 sister another Pit Bull “Daisy” that loved you as if you were her own baby. Your human family absolutely adored you. I can still feel the satin of your white coat and will always remember you as the squirmy little white puppy with your beautiful eyes looking up at me, as I tried to hold you in my arms. You were so helpless. But you grew up big and strong, yet remained gentle and trustworthy around your human children. I loved you too Rosey and will miss you. My beloved Hooch has met you at the Bridge by now I am sure. And Daisy, too. Try not to wear them out too much with your mischievous ways. I am glad that I did what I said I would do. I protected you Rosey as did your “real” family. They found “time” for you even though they worked and had hockey games and young ones of their own to raise. My heart goes out to them as I know their hearts are breaking tonight.

My sorrow is nothing compared to theirs for they got to love you and know you for a whole lifetime. May these small words I write here comfort them: ” A more loving, devoted, home could never have been found for Little Miss Rosey!” I never had to worry if you were safe after they adopted you. I KNEW you were as safe as could be. I did always check in on you though you didn’t know it my little friend. Rosey, this isn’t the end,
it’s a new beginning for you.

You were the best girl and you turned out to be a gracious, loving, devoted, funny, companion and an outstanding representative of the bully breeds. I hope that just one person that reads this Tribute to Rosey will give a pit bull a chance at a second life. Don’t let all the negative PR deprive you of adopting a dog whose whole world will revolve around you and will be loyal and loving to you until their last breath is drawn. Please give them a chance—they lament for months or years at the shelters, some never knowing a warm bed, full belly, or a gentle touch. And those are the “lucky” ones that make it to the shelters. So, in honor of Rosey, I ask that if you can’t adopt a pit bull, go to the local shelter and spend some quality time loving one—-you won’t regret it.
