Easter Weekend 1998
You were the sweetest cutest most adorable
Golden Retriever we have ever seen.
We took seconds to pick you out from your littermates.
It was love at first sight. We brought you home
on the first day of Spring to make our family complete.
You were perfect for us all.
This is why we struggle with heartfelt sympathy and
sadness to understand why you left us.
Even though you strived valiantly for only three hours
after choking caused your lungs and heart to fail
our burden lingers.
Even though you were with us only three weeks
the pain your death has caused us is unbearable.
Even though you only lived for three months our
memories of you will last forever.
The doctor told us that you were half the size you should
have been; but you were bigger than life to us.
The doctor found a hole in your heart; but we all
remember you as the little puppy with the huge heart.
This is what we want to tell you and our hope
is that you can hear:
During the time you were here
the grass turned greener,
the trees grew leaves
the flowers sprung,
the birds came out to sing
and the sun never shined brighter.
You brought out the vitality in our Tigger and Sheba.
Your happy smile and gentle licks warmed us.
You fit right in and quickly became a favorite.
With your newness of life you brought us playfulness
happiness and adoration.
You brought us even closer as a family so
your life had great meaning to us all.
Your love and affection grew on us.
Now your passing has broken our hearts.
The song says there's more room in a broken heart.
Well that's where you'll live with us forever.
We'll remember this Good Friday as the day our
Yellow Rose of Texas taught us a great lesson in the meaning
and value of life.
We will leave you this Saturday in our garden of roses
at Hillcrest as the sweetest keepsake.
We'll choose to think of you this Sunday as our
eternal Easter gift.
And your beautiful name and cherished memory Rosie
will live on.
Dear Lord grant us understanding in our time of loss;
healing in our time of need; and gratitude for your
compassionate gift of Rose Melissa
our friend and companion.
May she rest in peace.
