Rusty by Terri / Momma

Rusty was my special friend. A true companion. We had a very special bond. I swear he could understand my every word and he knew my feelings. Offering a tender paw on my cheek as if to say, “everything will be all right” whenever I was sad or depressed. He was my protector, too. Keeping an intruder at bay when he had managed to open my door.

He was so much more than just a dog. I loved him with all of my heart. And just as I made his day when I walked through the door, he made mine just to see him smile and react with so much love whenever he saw me. He came into my life as just a pup and I was proud to hold him dear and comfort him during his last moments on this earth at the age of 14.

While my heart held so much pain and was breaking in two…it was my turn to be there for him and try to give back a portion of the love he gave so freely. But, his love was directed only to me. The bond was very strong. All who knew us, spoke of the devotion we had to each other. He was truly my baby.

He grieved so whenever we were separated during times apart. He was happy just to be where I was. People would stop us on the street marvelling also at his pleasure to be obedient to my every word…even without any formal training.

Unique and very, very special…that was my sweet Rusty.

With Love
