On August 13th of this year Our family suffered a tragic loss. Our beloved German Shepard was Killed. Sadie was truly a hero; she was protecting our daughter and beagle. Sadie joined our family in 2000 after her previous owner wasn’t able to care for her anymore since they were older. They had raised her since she was a pup and wanted the best life for her. Well she was pretty scared the first time she saw us but let it be known that she was your best friend as soon as you gave her a treat.
Sadie loved our family and quickly became comfortable and settled in, she left her fur all over “her” furniture. As time went by Sadie’s age started to catch up a little and in 2003 she survived a battle with cancer. She even got her old energy back when we rescued a stray kitten in 2000 and recently a abandoned beagle we named buddy. Sadie decided she was their mom and she loved them, she made sure they got put in their place to when she thought they were getting out of hand, she was also very comical when she wanted to play.
Sadie would amuse her self too,she used to hit a ball with her paws or nose to move it if we were to busy. If she didn’t think she was getting the attention she deserved she let us know that too. I always knew she had very good instinct around strangers, she was very protective and if she sensed something wrong she would let us know and not let that person near. I never worried about taking a walk with her near.
Running and hunting were her favorite things to do and we enjoyed seeing her run and have fun. I never worried about her getting loose out of our yard either, she never wanted to until August 13th. I was at work that afternoon and our youngest was putting buddy on his leash in the yard, he got away and she went after him. Sadie being her loyal, loving and protective self got out of our fenced yard and followed after them. Sadie quickly got Buddy rounded up and they were heading home. They were only two blocks away from our house.
When it came time to cross the street Sadie went first, she would never let anyone else near the edge until she looked first. She saw traffic coming and was getting out of the way but a van was speeding and even though there wasn’t any on coming traffic the driver of the van purposely hit Sadie and sped off. This happened in front of our daughter, several vehicles stopped to help when they saw what happened. Sadie let them lift her into someones van while her daughter walked my daughter home to get my husband who was resting after working all night.
Sadly Sadie passed away on the trip to the vet hospital. My family took her to one of her favorite places, found a spot she loved and laid her to rest.Sadie was not just a pet she was our family and she gave her life protecting her family. I could never repay what she gave to us with her love & loyalty she is an example of what a real hero is. We love you and will never forget you, Sadie.
Will love you and miss you always,
