Sakura by Sandra and Ron

Your real name, of course, was Sakura,
which means Cherry Blossom in Japanese. Daddy named you, he had seen a movie called Sayonara, in it was a piece of music called Sakura Sakura, so that is what we named you. Later Daddy found that music for me, I play it when I light your candle next to your ashes.

Oh how I miss you my precious Sakura, you were such a little character, and a great joy. You adapted to your harness and leash quite well, even when such a tiny kitten, and we spent a lot of time walking in the park next to our old house. Back when you came to live with us in the spring of 1986, not many people were used to seeing a Siamese cat walking on a leash. Lots of people came to talk to us and admire you, you were very beautiful; they would ask ‘how did I train you’?I said it was quite easy; I just walked wherevever you wished to go.

You and I would have long chat’s, do you remember? As you got older we would spend more time sitting on the grass in the sun, that was fine as we were together and we still had our long chat’s – you always needed the last word; that was fine by me. I know sometimes Mummy got a headache when you would chatter so loudly, especially when Mummy was busy, or stressed. Sometimes I would get cross, and then I would look at your beautiful face and say how sorry I was, we would hug and you would forgive me. Sakura I would do anything to hear your sweet chatter again.

Once you caught a little mouse and ran up stairs with it, Daddy chased you and saved the little mouse, you were quite annoyed with him, and you never forgot that mouse, and you would play tricks on Mummy by pretending you had another little mouse, and dash up the stairs knowing we were coming after you, only to find you sitting on the landing wearing a huge grin and going about your grooming, as if to say, I don’t know what all the fuss is about, I was only joking.

I know you were happy with us, you certainly made Daddy and I very happy. I hope we did not make you suffer, with all those trips to Dr Porostoky, we only wanted to make you well so you would not have to leave us so soon, 16 years was not nearly enough time with you, but then a life time would not have been long enough.

We think, and hope that it was you who sent Sapphire to us; she is a lot like you, we hope you are not upset. She has blue eyes like you, and her colours are similar, but she has much longer fur than you.We took her to live with us because we missed you so much, and she had been given up to the shelter, needed a home, and to be loved. Like you she is very beautiful and walks now on a leash, and, as usual, I follow.

We love her, but please know my Sakura, you will always hold a special place in our hearts, and will never be forgotten. I hope you will wait for us at the Rainbow Bridge, looking young and beautiful, and above all healthy. Be good my little love, have fun – chase mice, but don’t hurt them, and have catnip filled dreams until we are together again.
We will love you and miss you forever Funny Face.
