Shepherd/Rottweiler
I met Sam in 1988 when I worked at a restaurant waiting tables and
was told there was a dog that lived behind a house out back
that was tied up on a leash and fed occasionally.
That day in the beginning of May I started feeding and giving him water.
Within the next two weeks we were great buddies and
then one day he almost got hit by a tour bus.
He had broken off the leash well needless to say
that was the day Sam came to live with us.
My husband bathed him when he got home from work and
Sam lived in the house from that moment on.
Sam had to win over our other dog Brandy which he did with ease.
He had a heart filled with gold.
Sam seemed interested in playing Frisbee so Brandy and my husband
taught him to catch a Frisbee ball snowball
well you get the idea.
Sam was the protector of all of us but he always laid at my feet
with one paw on my foot so he would know if I got up and moved and
he followed me everywhere and under my feet all the time and
what I wouldn’t give to have him under my feet again.
Sam was never sick until in October we found a lump on his leg and
before removing it they did blood work and found an infection
so we thought it had to do with the lump which was removed and
found to be a fatty tissue but the infection had gotten worse and
when the x-rays revealed a tumor by his spleen and
the vet advised letting him be spoiled rotten
at home for his final journey which we did.
He was so courageous to the end he never complained.
This house is so empty without Sam and
my heart is missing a piece that he took with him
but I know I will get it back on Rainbow’s Bridge.
I love and miss you Sam
