Shep by Rich & Judy

Shep came into our lives from the Seattle Sheltie Rescue. His previous owners had taken to the vet in Lynden Wash. to be put down because they were moving. The very kind vet there talked them into letting her find another home for him. We had just had to send our own beloved shelties to the Rainbow Bridge (Sadie paw 70 and Dusty paw 78) and I had registered with the Rescue centers both in Wash. State and B.C. Seattle does not place their dogs outside of the state but since we lived so close to the border they let us have Shep.

It was love at first sight he just wagged his tail and jumped into the car with us. Shep had once been hit by a car and had three very bad legs he could not run or walk very far. He was on the pain medicine Metacam. Shep was a mans dog and would follow Dad into the garage and workshop but he was always there to greet me when I came home from work. He wouldn’t eat unless I sat down beside him but he soon learnt that if he didn’t eat Monty our min pin would finish it for him.

When we had Shep for eight months I notice he had a small white lump on his gums. So off the see Dr. Susie Cizak. She said there was probably nothing to worry about but she sent a sample to the lab. A week later she phone and said she would rather shoot herself in the foot than have to tell me this but it was cancer the worst kind a dog could have. Shep was operated on and Susie said she was very agressive in cutting it out and hopefully she had it all. Shep was fine and still
very playful and loving.

In April of this year we moved to the Okanagan Valley. The dier climate here helped Shep with this walking. He would walked at his own pace all over the property and when it became too hot he would go into the garage or carport. It was always hard getting him to come into the house. He would have to be bribe with a treat. In the middle of June Shep started not eating changing his food helped. Then nothing would what he did eat came right back up. We took him to a vet here the cancer was back and there was nothing that could be done for him.
Shep went to the Rainbow Bridge.

Though we only had you for twenty months Shep you became a very important part of our lives and we loved you. Your were a wonderful boy and never once complained when you were in so much pain. You would sit so good on the kitchen floor while I gave you your medicine
each morning before breakfast.

Monty misses you just as much as we do. Each morning he checks your bed then runs outside and checks the carport and garage. I know you are now free of pain you can run and play with Sadie Dusty and Candy at the Rainbow Bridge. Someday we will come and get all of you.
Till then be happy and play.

We will miss you and
love you forever

Mom Dad and Monty
