Jan 1991 – May 16 1999
Shyann and I first laid eyes on each other at
the Vancouver SPCA in January of 1998.
I was asked by one of the workers if I could foster her and her
10 pups and knowing me I love dogs I said yes.
I was warned before I got there that she was very thin.
Well when I saw her I couldn’t believe it.
She was just skin and bones. Shyann was a Neapolitan Mastiff and if
anyone knows what kind of dogs these are they should weigh
about 150lbs. Shyann weighed 89lbs and having to take care of
10 puppies was not easy for her but I brought her home and we
fixed up a pen inside the house so that she could lay comfortably
to take care of her babies. As they grew and didn’t need mother
too much anymore and Shyann started putting on weight. Well,
the puppies all found homes through the SPCA and
I took Shyann in to get spayed. I got the call at work.
They had bad news. Shyann had really bad arthritis in her
front elbows and probably would live about 6 months before
the pain started to get to her. They said that they don’t adopt out
animals with health problems and that they would have to
put her to sleep but I wasn’t going to let that happen.
I adopted her. When the pain of her arthritis was starting to get
to her more and more and I didn’t know what I was going to do
she could barely go up and down the stairs.
Then someone mentioned Acupuncture which we did and
it helped Shyann alot in the last 6 months of her life.
We only had her for a year and a half but I’m glad to have given her
a good last year. She passed away on our porch on May 16.
I wasn’t home when it happened. I guess her heart gave out.
She was about 8 yrs old. I came home later that night and found
out the bad news. I was devastated.
Shyann was an awesome dog faithful companion and very loyal
protector. Although we didn’t have her very long she won
our hearts and we do plan on getting another Neo Mastiff one day.
We miss you lots Shyann.
Take good care of Espree Daisy and Quincey.
