Toy Poodle
Taffy was my best friend and the joy in my life for 7 years.
It took me a long time to accept his death.
He became very weak one day we took him to the vet
and he was given medication.
We were told he would improve in a few days.
He didn't. He got worst and I feel like I watched my baby
die before my eyes over the span of a few days.
He died overnight on a yellow blanket in my parents' room.
One of the only times he wasn't asleep in my room.
Mom came in that morning to tell me. It was so unreal,
I went to him to the body touched him to make sure.
I had never touched a dead body.
I had never lost someone I loved. I insisted an autopsy be done
and the result was he had liver failure I think.
I kept his favorite toys and a lock of his apricot hair.
I had a painting of him buried with him in the backyard next
to our garden. It's an unmarked grave I never did have
the heart to place the gravestone there.
Taffy's in my heart forever.
