Thurgood by Shelley Koltnow / Shelley Koltnow

Thurgood was born on my foot while I was watching “The Sopranos.” He was the first kitten I had ever seen born. I marvel that his mother trusted me enough to invite me to the birth! He has two brothers (Waldo and Fuzzy) and a sister (Lily)who still live here.

I loved these kittens so much I kept them all…after all, I already owned their parents! Thurgood was my pal from the first moment of his life. I watched him open his eyes…walk..climb…use litter…purr..cuddle. I showed him he could trust me and he decided to love me. He was so loving and “people bonded” that I couldn’t help but love him all the time. He slept on my head every night like a hat, curled around my head and purring in my ear.

I called him “T..T…T” and coddled him. He was an indoor cat with whole-house privileges. He was healthy, beautiful, gray and white with hints of orange on his forelegs and huge yellow eyes
with a mellow and soulful expression.

On the day he died, he was on my bed until I went to sleep. I found him in the morning, on the dining room table, dead. He had a silent cardiomyopathy that took him before he was six. I love this cat still, and I miss him terribly. He was a grace in my life and a joy to me from the beginning to the end of his.

I will remember him always,
Thurgood
