Tiny by June

She was 3 months old when we brought her into our home in the summer of 1957. She was the smallest pup from a neighbour’s dog’s litter and that was why we decided to name her “Tiny”.

In her early years she was very energetic. She would get excited whenever visitors came into our home and let out a few yelps wiggle her body towards them and crouch until her head was patted. Then she would settle down nearby. She was an affectionate little dog and loved to be petted.

Tiny didn’t like to get her paws wet or dirty. She would try to hide if she sensed she was to be given a bath. She hated to get wet. During the summer months she enjoyed playing and running around in the back yard and sitting in the sun.

Tiny was mom’s dog and would follow her around the house most of the day. She was her constant companion.

She preferred people food. Her favorite meats were chicken turkey and roast beef. Corn on the cob was a treat for her. She could be coaxed to sing by withholding a treat above her head as she sat on her hind legs and being gradually prompted to howl until she hit a certain high note. Then she would be rewarded for her effort.

A car ride was a highly enjoyable experience for her. She would sit in mother’s lap or mine her eyes sparkling and tongue hanging out and head moving from left to right watching everything go by.

My parents were fortunate to have had Tiny for 16 1/2 years. She was a good little dog that made their life more enjoyable and rewarding. They never forgot her. Neither will I and all that knew her. Tiny was put to sleep on November 8th 1973 due to a mouth infection that was incurable.
