MY BELOVED CORKY,
I thank GOD that I was lucky enough to find you, at around age 6 or 7 at the home of a woman who had way too many dogs to take care of…..She needed a home for you, and I needed a dog to love……Even when you were dirty and your fur was matted the first time I saw you, I Knew I would LOVE you….You were a big, beautiful, blonde, full blooded Cocker Spaniel, and Marty said that you “loved children,” so I knew you would love my grandsons, and they would love you.(She also said that you were prone to run away, and that the last owner returned you because you kept running away to a nearby Day Care Center to visit the children)…
Corky, you were a GREAT JOY to me for the 3 years that I had you! You loved EVERYONE, hardly ever barked, were a beautiful blonde boy, who had a heart of GOLD….How I Loved your company and your disposition; and I had hoped and planned that you and I would spend MANY years together, since you were still a fairly young dog…I, of course, did not know that Cocker Spaniels can be prone to Auto Immune Anemia; and I had NO way of knowing that you would develop it at the age of 6 0r 7!
With very little warning and quite suddenly you became VERY ill, and the vets gave you a blood transfusion, trying to restore your life…BUt, as they told me it might not, it did NOT work, and you grew weaker and were suffering so much…At the third vet’s recommendation, we let you go to the next world, where you are not suffering anymore…It was VERY painful for me to let you go, but I did not want you to suffer anymore, since you couldn’t get better..Your beautiful body is buried in my back yard, near the graves of my two old cats, Sunshine and Shadow, whom you knew…(One died two months before you and the other died this Spring.)You and your sister cats all have nice markers on your graves…In the summer, I put a statue of a blonde Cocker
on top of your grave.
My grandsons both miss you, and so do my grown-up children, who all enjoyed you when they visited.
I still miss you, after almost a year! Losing you was so sudden, and I was NOT prepared! One of my daughters found me a smaller black and tan Cocker Spaniel to love, and Charlie is very sweet and loving, but barks too much sometimes and is suspicious of many people…You could have taught him a lot about how to get along with people, but he is learning, as he is only 3. Like you, he is a good companion and wants to protect me.
I still have my only other kitty, BAFFO, who is now 3 years old…..I may get another cat, so he will have a playmate..BUT, I will always remember you–beautiful, loving blonde that you were, and all the times you ran away (so quickly, too) and how I had to search the neighborhood to find you either visiting another dog, some children, or sniffing someone’s flowers. How grateful I always was when I found you! I loved you SO much!
GOD BLESS YOU, MY DEAR SWEET CORKIE….REST IN PEACE, SWEET DOG!
