God knew you were suffering

So he gently closed your eyelids

In tears we watched you leaving.
We watched you fade away.
Our hearts were nearly broken.
You fought so hard to stay.
It broke our hearts to see you go,
But you did not go alone.
For a part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
So we'll lift our eyes toward heaven
and inside we know one day.
Instead of looking up
We'll be beside you there to stay.
