Heavens Gate
I looked into your eyes and seen the pain.
Realizing what was my loss was your gain.
Once it was over the pain would be no more.
You would be playful and free as before.
The decision was so very hard yet I knew you did realize.
As I looked into those sad brown eyes.
Tears overwhelmed my heart.
When I knew it was time to let you part.
You looked at me and kissed my face like you used to.
Then I realized it was a lick of thank you.
I held your paw and told you I would love you forever.
That the memories would leave me never.
As I watched you drift off to sleep.
The memory was something I would forever keep.
For you looked so peaceful and calm laying there.
I knew that you realized I did care.
Life was a struggle for you no more.
I opened up a better doggy door.
For I know you will wait for me by the pearly gate.
I promise you I wont be late.
I will welcome your cold nose with an open heart.
Knowing then we will never part.
We can take the time to run and play.
Just as we did every day.
I will be complete once again.
When I meet you at the gates my precious friend.
