German Shepherd / Chow

MY wife & I got married on May 3,1997.

After we got back from our honeymoon and still had time off from work.

My wife new I like German Shepherds. We took a stray cat that

was fighting with ours to the animal control Jefferson County.

While there we looked at the dogs. There stood Jack.

Look like Rin Tin Tin and my German Shepherd Caesar

that I lost to death in 1988.

My wife said she could tell I had already fell in love with Jack.

That she would get him for me as a fathers day gift.

He look like a purebred AKC black and tan saddle shepherd.

But when you look at his mouth he had a purple tongue that was

the Chow in him. You couldn’t get Jack away from my side.

What was funny is her late husband that died in 1988 was name Jack.

But we didn’t know Jack name until we filled out the papers.

For awhile my wife would say you love that dog more than me.

She was kidding but knew in her heart I had a alot of love for Jack.

Later we got two AKC German Shepherd female pups and

even though I love those two too Jack was my number 1.

He got to were he would go over the fence sometimes.

So we had to chain him when we weren’t out there.

He would always come to the front porch if the chain broke

or his collar slipped off. I had started a new job driving in May 1998.

And I was working alot of overtime. On August 10,1998 at aprox. 9:00 AM.

I got a call from my dispatcher that I needed to get home

there was a emergency.

As I got to the house I could see my wife and daughter standing

in the front yard by the road and seen Jack laying there bloody.

I parked the van and ran over there. My wife said she came

home from work seen Jack loose came in the house to put down stuff.

When she heard a go cart on the street.

Heard Jack make a noise and went out and seen him laying there.

Friends across the street said” Jack had chase a cat across the street

and had two front paws back in our yard.

When two teenagers on a go-carts went from the right side of the road

to the left and hit Jack on purpose then left the area

left him there seriously injured and to die.

We tried several times to pick him up in a blanket but it caused

him to much pain and he was too badly injured.

He had three broken legs skin torn off of him internal bleeding,

I stood there looking and not believing. He kept on trying to get

up and be next to me but couldn’t. So I sat next to his head and put his

head on my lap as I petted him and as my heart was breaking.

We called the sherif department since it as done on purpose.

The officer agreed he was dying and suffering and said he could shoot him.

We went in the house and waited for the sound we knew was

coming bang. That bang went through my heart over and over.

The officer covered him completely with a blanket and I buried jack in

our yard with a Indian statue wrap with him.

My wife and daughter knew how upset I was and in minutes had found

a breeder with a male AKC German Shepherd.

Even though I love Dutch he can never take the place of Jack.

My wife is scared that someday I may catch those two that hit him.

And knows that my hate for them is as strong as my love for Jack.

And doesn’t know what my Apache and Irish temper side would do

if I ever find them.

I loved you Jack It was like they took a son away from me took a part of me.

Our German Shepherd business will be dedicated in yours

and Caesars memory.

I will never forget you and will never forgive the

ones that took you away from us.
