Dec. 1 1987 —- June 23 2000
Bouvier / Golden Retriever
WHEN I FIRST SAW ALEX HE WAS SITTING IN A BOX OUTSIDE
THE GROCERY STORE IN CALIFORNIA.
HE WAS SO CUTE AND FUZZY ALL BLACK EXCEPT FOR A WHITE SPOT
ON HIS CHIN AND ONE ON HIS CHEST.
HE LOOKED LIKE A LITTLE BEAR CUB IN A TUX.
HE WAS ONLY 8 WEEKS OLD AND WEIGHED 18 POUNDS.
HIS FEET LOOKED LIKE SMALL DUST MOPS.
I KNEW HE WAS GOING TO BE BIG.
I PICKED HIM UP AND HE WRAPPED THOSE BIG BLACK FUZZY PAWS
AROUND MY NECK AND I WAS HIS FOR LIFE.
WE MOVED FROM CALIFORNIA TO COLORADO AND HE LOVED
THE MOUNTAINS.
ABOUT 6 YEARS AGO HE DEVELOPED A LUMP ON HIS NECK ABOUT
THE SIZE OF AN EGG. WE HAD IT BIOPSIED NO CANCER.
FOR THAT I WAS GRATEFUL BUT THE LUMP DOUBLED IN SIZE.
AND CONTINUED TO DO SO FOR ABOUT 3-4 WEEKS.
WE WERE DOING EVERY TEST UNDER THE SUN ON HIM TRYING
EVERY ANTIBIOTIC (HIS TEMPERATURE KEPT GOING UP AND DOWN TO 105)
AT OUR WITS END THE VET THOUGHT OUR LAST HOPE WOULD
BE STEROIDS. WE WERE SCARED TO DEATH IT WOULD KILL HIM
BECAUSE OF HIS WHITE BLOOD COUNT. BUT IF NOT HE WAS SURE TO DIE.
TURNED OUT IT WAS AN AUTO IMMUNE DISEASE THAT HAD
TESTED NORMAL. WE TOOK OUT THE LUMP BY THEN THE SIZE OF
A GRAPEFRUIT AND WITHIN A FEW WEEKS HE WAS BACK TO HIS OLD SELF.
WE HAD A WONDERFUL 12 1/2 YEARS TOGETHER.
THIS MAY WE FOUND OUT THAT HE HAD BONE CANCER IN HIS
LEFT SHOULDER. AND THE WORST PART WAS THERE WAS NOTHING
WE COULD DO BUT MAKE HIM COMFORTABLE.
IT BROKE MY HEART TO SEE HIM GETTING WORSE OVER
THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS.
HE WEIGHED 125 POUNDS AND WAS THE MOST GENTLE
EVEN TEMPER SWEET ANGEL YOU COULD EVER MEET.
ON FRIDAY JUNE 23 2000 WE HAD TO MAKE THE HARDEST DECISION OF
OUR LIVES. BUT HE IS NO LONGER IN PAIN AND HIS HEALTHY AGAIN.
I KNOW HE IS IN HEAVEN HAVING GRANDPA THROW HIS BALL TO HIM OVER
AND OVER AGAIN. NOT ONE DAY WILL GO BY UNTIL WE ARE
TOGETHER AGAIN THAT I WILL NOT MISS HIM AND LONG TO
HUG THAT BIG FUZZY FACE.
ALFONZ
MOMMY LOVES YOU BABY!!!!!!
