Teddy

April 1989 —— Jan. 24 2001

When Teddy became a permanent part of my life in the summer of 1995,

I just become the proud owner of my now five and half year old lab Tucker

and we moved in with my big brother and his then six year old Teddy.

Teddy wasn’t very good a social graces with dogs or humans so this

was a big adjustment for him. He had already gone through my brother’s

divorce and because of my brother working all the time he kind of started

to just blend in with the furniture in the house except for feedings

and going out to take care of business.

Needles to say he had become a lonely dog before we arrived

my big brother did his best but he had so little to give at the end of

his long days trying to stay afloat emotionally and financially but Teddy

didn’t care he always greeted him at the door with a happy bark

and the wag of his tail and seemed to be content at lying at his feet.

Well as I said Tucker and I descended into his life and territory and it took

a while for him to warm up to Tucker after all he was six and dealing with a

baby dog of only ten weeks of age at the time was quite an adjustment

for this old boy. It was only a very short time and Teddy and Tucker were

best of buddies though Teddy would have to correct Tucker on who ate

out of what bowl and who got treats first. They soon had their pecking

order straight and have since been inseparable except for six months

when I had a small apartment of my own before buying my own house.

Tucker brought out the playful pup in a dog that still had a lot of life left in him

and Teddy rewarded that with always being his protector.

There wasn’t any other dog that could come near Tucker without Teddy

trying to protect Tucker even though Tucker was always and is still always

eager to meet new dogs and humans.

Teddy spent most of his outdoor time in the hot pursuit of squirrels there

was no hope in catching one but in all the twelve years I knew this crazy

dog it never stopped him from the chase.

I know that he now has all the squirrels he wants to chase in Heaven

and that I will see him again. Tucker is still a little bit confused as to

where his old buddy and friend has gone to hopefully he will be able to

find peace in his sweet Labrador retrievers heart until then we will keep going

on because there is always hope and joy in the journey.

God Bless all who read this may your heart be

filled with peace.

Trish
