Fritz Sebastian Bark by Charlotte Hayes / Mommy

Fritz is still with me, so this is a tribute to the love that he provides. I never knew so much love could come in such a small little package.

Fritz’s life began somewhere, but I have no idea where that would be. He was found walking down a highway outside of a small town in AZ. When he was picked up, he was taken to the local pound. At one point a family adopted him, but then they decided that since he was not a pure bred, they did not want him.

Fritz was going to be taken back to the pound, so a friend of my family took him home to find someone for Fritz to love. Eventually, my family met Fritz, and he went to live with my great nephew. Unfortunately, there is an active two year old in the house. I volunteered to take Fritz since I’d lost my beloved Bingo just a month before, and my heart was breaking from loneliness.

My little guy is the most adorable 8.8 pound of red fur anyone could ever hope to have as a companion. He has never met a human he didn’t love, and he wouldn’t hurt anyone ever.

Fritzie walks around wagging his tail, and I really think the only time it isn’t moving is when he’s asleep.

After work I’ll lay on the sofa to watch TV. Fritz doesn’t wait two seconds before he joins me. When I come in from work, he’s so obviously overjoyed that I can hardly get him to hold still while I attach his leash.

I don’t believe I’ve beaten Fritz to bed once in the last six months. He loves to be on my left side so he can dive under the covers and curl up in a little ball right next to me.

I write this tribute to Fritz because he’s such a wonderful representative of the Dachshund/Chihuahua mix. I didn’t realize how many there were around until I started looking at petfinders.com and other rescue sites.

I want everyone out there to know that if they are searching for a companion to love them and make their lives more joyful, one of these little tykes is just perfect.

Fritz has no bad habits. He loves to please, and his little heart would break if he thought I was angry with him.

My vet believes that Fritz was about 10 months to one year old in early July. I’ve decided that we will celebrate his birthday on July 4th every year. I look forward to having this little bundle of joy in my life for as long as he can be with me.

I think most of all I’m grateful to God for having giving me the opportunity to take care of one of His special little creatures. I don’t know if Fritz was dumped or if he just got lost. I do know that he’s found a home where he is king, and his mommy loves him with all she’s worth. I also know that the love I have for Fritz is returned 10 fold.

Fritz, I will always love you with all my heart.
