My husband brought Coolie home April 1993, she was 8 months old. Her former owner didn’t want her because she didn’t look like a purebred, but she was. The papers on her were correct.
She had a tremendous amount of energy the first 7-8 months that we had her. I was a new mom and wasn’t to thrilled with all Coolie’s energy. My husband gave her love and attention everyday and
took her everywhere.
Then when she was about 16 months we decided to spay her and I agreed to let her stay in the house for her to recooperate from her surgery. From that moment I felt like I was starting to bond with this dog.
Coolie was perfect to us, she loved to swim, go camping with us , she was great in the boat when we went fishing. Coolie loved to chase chipmunks! All we had to say was Coolie get the chippy and she knew what to do, she would search high and low, near and far for a chipmunk and was just thrilled each and every time we told her to get the chippy. We did this almost everyday with her.
She was a wonderful dog in the house and in her kennel, she was very good with other animals we brought home. She made us feel safe, she always let us know when a stranger was around or near our home. She was a very loving dog who loved children, she would never hurt a child. She loved to lick there faces.
In Jan. 2002 we noticed she was starting to limp after she wiped out on the ice in the driveway and proceeded to hit the fence. Her limp had gotten better and we thought nothing of it then in March 2002 we took her to the vet because she was limping again at that time the vet thought she pulled out her shoulder and gave her medicine.
Coolie was not limping for a short time and then I took her back to the vet in May 2002 because she was limping and had a lump on her leg. The vet told me it might be Osteo Sarcoma (Cancer) but we had to do more tests. We did the tests it came back positive for Cancer. We were shocked and extremely sad. We made the decision we would have her put down when her condition started to worsen.
July 12th I took Coolie to McDonalds her favorite place for a hamburger, I wanted her to enjoy her last day. We would always stop at McDonalds on the way home from a camping or fishing trip and Coolie loved it. July 13th we took her in to put her down. I held her close until she stopped breathing and just before she took her last breath she looked at me sadly and licked my face.
We took her to grandmas farm and buried her below my husbands deer stand. Her grave is adorned with a hand crafted black lab sculpture and american flags. We loved her and will never forget her. She was the best! We love you Coolie girl! I hope that God is looking after you.
Love you Coolie.
