I am a dog. This is my story. It was a sunny day the day I was born. I had one sister and one brother; it was quite scary being born because I didn’t know what it all meant, but my mummy was kind of soft and warm; she had some lovely milk that I was able to drink. It tasted lovely. Well the next few weeks were spent with my mummy and brother and sister; we learned to drink and eat and run about; we grew fast, but I was not very well. I heard the humans say I was the runt of the litter; I didn’t know what that meant but I didn’t like the sound of it.
As the weeks went by I heard the humans say that it was time we were sold and went to our new homes; I didn’t want to be sold, whatever that meant. I just wanted to stay with my mummy.
Well one afternoon some humans came; they picked us all up one by one then they went away with my brother. I was getting realy worried now. I didn’t like what was happening; then some more humans came, they picked me up then picked my sister up and they took her away. I was left on my own. My mummy didn’t seem to want to be botherd with me; I was feeling so sad. Nobody wanted me. I guessed that’s what being the runt of the litter must have meant.
The day rolled on and I was on my own. Then some more humans came, by this time I was hoping they would choose me. I was silly enough not to realise that they had no choice there was only me left. This human picked me up, and I heard them tell her that I had a hernia; she looked at me, and I thought I had better do something quick so I licked her face; it worked. She fell in love with me. She handed some pieces of paper over which I now know is called money, then she took me and put me on her knee in a car. I was scared. The car was noisy, and a bit bumpy, but this human kept kissing on me it felt good, so I went to sleep.
I arrived at my new home late at night and what greeted me nearly made my heart stop. A great big dog, called Lassie was there; she looked at me and growled. I was so frightened, but my new mummy cuddled me close and only let Lassie look at me. I was not a happy puppy. I spent the night in a box, worrying about this big dog, but I needn’t have worried, boy had I dropped on a good home.
Next day my new mummy bought me a dog cage, a bed and lots of toys; I could tell she loved me. Mummy gave me a name. She said I was to be called Holly; I liked that name. I hadn’t had a name before;
I was just called dog.
Then we had to go see Louis my vet. I didn’t know what a vet was and the place was clean and smelt funny. He stuck a needle in the back of my neck, but I trusted my new mummy; she wouldn’t have let him do that to me unless I really needed it. Then the horror of horrors, this hernia was mentioned again, and even worse I had some things called fleas and mites, and ear infections. Now I really knew what runt of the litter meant; I really panicked, but my mummy said it would all be sorted; she got me some stuff what she sprayed on me, and some stuff to put in my ears. I sat very still for mummy while she sprayed me and put stuff in my ears; it was the least I could do because I could see
she was worried about me.
Then disaster realy struck, mummy came out in a rash; she caught it from me. I thought I would have to go back that she wouldnt keep me but I was wrong; she got better and she got me better also .
“Chapter 2”
Well mummy got better and so did I. I was let out of my cage and Lassie was not so scary after all; she played with me and washed me, but mummy went mad about my fleas and mites she said it was dirty where I had come from. I guess it was because it was clean here and I could smell the difference. I loved to go on the big bed with mummy she cuddled me up real close, and said they had saved the best for last; boy did she love me. She still does, and I love my mummy.
When I got older I had to go have a spay, that was so I wouldn’t have any babies; I also had my hernia mended; I had to wear a collar around my neck. It was like a lamp shade. I was naughty and tried to rip it off. Mummy was quite mad with me because I wouldnt be good, in the end she taped it on to my neck, but what fun I had when it finaly came off;
it was great.
My mummy sings to me and Lassie. She sings silly songs, but we don’t mind. I wish I could sing a song back to mummy. Well what else can I say life is good with Lassie and mummy. We play have fun and I am so lucky to have this forever home.
I am going to the beauty parlour soon to get made beautiful, but I’m already beautiful so I don’t know what they can do to make me any nicer. I wish all doggys could get nice kind forever homes like I have. I guess I am one of the lucky ones. I’m only young yet only 16 months old, but I’m glad I was left till the last because I wouldn’t swap my mummy and Lassie and my forever home for anything in the world.
Lots of love from Holly hope you enjoy my story
The End
I Love you so much Holly ,
