My 2 sons in 1993 were 11 and 9. My wife Sandy and I had talked with the boys about getting a dog. I had always had larger dogs but she insisted on a small dog. So we compromised and got a small dog. We went over to meet the breeder and she showed us two 7 week old Yorkshire Terriers. It was love at first sight. I began learning about the history of the breed and was fascinated by their story. My boys told my wife it was the best gift they had ever received. My wife said why, and the boys answered “because its alive”! What answer could be more beautiful and sincere. Oliver immediately became a family member and we enjoyed every day we ever spend together. He was quit a pampered puppy, and we loved him just as he was.
His health had always be great and we were blessed for that also.
About a week before his 10th birthday when I was 3000 miles away I called my wife to check on everyone and that’s when she told me our boys found Oliver dead near the edge to the road.
I wouldn’t believe it at first but its been about 2 weeks since and I pray for my family and myself to learn acceptance of what we cannot control. To remember to great times, the deep love we shared with that little guy and the unconditional love he always had for us.
I dedicate this story to my family Rick, Sandy, sons Ricky, Nicholas, Grandma and Grandpa Gillette and of course our little Oliver. Rest in peace my little man and never doubt we will someday meet again. The Love we shared could never keep us apart. God Bless You Oliver.
Our Love Eternal,
