Susie came into our lives about 4 months after losing our Ginger. We looked for close to 2 months before we found her.
One day while visiting my Aunt Lola (Dad’s sister)we stopped in to PetPals to see what kinds of puppies they had. In the pen were 5 white fluffy balls of action. I picked one up and had a little boy. I showed Dad and he said, “What no girls?” I went back and picked up another, and another until I found a girl–the only one out of the 5 wiggle worms.
I took her to Dad and it was love at first sight! Both he and Mom had been bitten by the pet cupid. She was the one and only dog that was purchased from a pet store, but became an integral part of the family.
While walking out to the car, Dad asked Mom what she was going to name her. “Susie”, was Mom’s answer, “after your sister Sue.” Aunt Sue at that time was in a nursing home after she had be diagnosed with brain cancer.
The day we went to visit Aunt Sue, we found her in good spirits. She asked where Dad was and Mom and I told her he was outside with the puppy. We got permission to bring her in. We put Susie up on the bed with Aunt Sue and a bond began for the two. When asked what her name was, we said, “Susie”, after you. Aunt Sue was so happy she started to cry. Aunt Sue lost her life not long after meeting her name sake.
Sue was Dad’s baby and was she ever lost the day that I had to take him to the hospital in the ambulance that I worked for. I came home and she went to the door and came back to me with the look in her eyes, “well you took Daddy, now where is he? Didn’t he come home with you?”
Dad left us on May 16, 1988, just after Sue turned a year old.
She lived to be 16 and she is now with Mom and Dad at Rainbow Bridge.
All my love
