On May 25th, My family adopted Valentina, after our previous dog passed away. We felt that it was time to find another god to love and care. We started looking over the pages of dog shelter and there she was. According to the dog shelter she has been strayed and was taken to the shelter where she was seven days without anyone claiming for her. So. she was put for adoption. We went on the same day to the shelter and began the process for the adoption. My family was so happy because she was such a sweetheart.
I must mention that Valentina wasn’t like a normal pomeranian. She behave like a cat, she will be in a corner licking her paws and she will be laying down on the sofa looking outside. She never bark — well with the exception of when she heard the doorbell, meaning that one of us arrive from work — She will be the first up in the morning and she used to go and wake up my mom to watch her while she prepare the breakfast. Once the breakfast was made..Valentina will come to the room and get my sister or me..if..my sister ate hers..Valentina will sit at the door waiting for me. She will behave like a princess (that’s the nickname everyone gave to her). She will make this cute dance to draws people attention or play with other dogs. I have no complaint about her.
On May 26, 2007 🙁 (the day of her third anniversary with us and also her birthday –set by us) doctors gave us the sad news that because of her age..her organs began to be compromised by several situations. So, her Vet told us that based on the Xrays, she needed an ultrasound to exactly tell us what was happening with her. But, because it was Memorial day weekend it was impossible for her to have it. They gave us the option of taking her to a 24 hour hospital until the next labor day. The other option was going to the Penn Vet University Hospital. But, that it was way expensive. But, we couldn’t bring her home either because she needed oxygen and fluids.. so..we decided to take her to a 24 hour My family and I did not gave up.. On our way to the hospital…my guts told me that she needed to go to Penn Vet..so my sister drove and we took her there..Valentina was very ill. Her heart was too big, her liver was presenting problems, her gallbladder appeared to have unknown liquid (possible mineral or billis), and to complete everything she was not able to breath for herself, so she was put in an oxygen chamber.
I could still see the doctor entering the room and delivering the news. The doctors required her to be admitted and stay in the hospital for further tests because there was a strange liquid that was extracted from her belly. My sister and I drove an hour back home, and opening the door 🙁 the doctor was calling us that the tests reveal something worst.
Valentina had a bacteria spread out and needed an emergency surgery. It was then that the doctors talked to us and say things straight forward. They were giving us only a 30% chance for her to survive the surgery. But, even with the operation, Valentina was going to need intensive support to help her breathing. She was not even walking 🙁 It was not about the money..but the doctors gave us no chance of survival for her and I did not want to see my baby suffering.
My sister and I drove back to the Hospital. We were taken back to the emergency room, and there was my baby in an oxygen chamber. The doctors let me hold her and we were taken to an isolated room were after screaming, sobbing, and lots of tears…my sister and I said our see you later to our baby.. She is now resting in peace..and we did whatever was in our hands to save her. The doctor was crying too..everyone was crying because it is painful.. losing a dog is losing like losing a relative. My baby girl I miss her so much 🙁
I LOVE YOU VALENTINA,
