Girlie showed up at my door in 1999 starved skinny hurt and a tail cut off and broke on the end. My husband got mad because I fed her but I had to help her. Girlie was scared mean and shy. It took me a few weeks to get her in my back yard where it was fenced. I wanted to help her and keep her so my Dobie would have some one to play with. Girlie was starved for attention. She bit my husband and me but I knew she was scared. It took me a year working with her to calm her down just so I could hug her. She really turn out to be the most lovable girl and showed it after she started trusting me.
I thought I was taking care of her by getting the yearly booster shots but after some research I have found out that you can overdose your dog with shots every year. This is what happened. I just got my dogs their yearly shots the first of July 2007. On 7/18/07 I let them out before work and Girley came back in the house bumping into things with her head to the floor. I lifted her head and was shocked to see one eye bright red with blood. Took her to the Vet ran blood tests and at first news was good. Girlie could be saved. Girlie had what is called IMHA or AIHA. Go to Pet library.com type in auto immune. There you will find a description of the disease. Heart breaking.I saw no symptoms! Girlie bled to death from the inside out and it came through the skin mouth and bowels.
Girlie slept with me and I still saw nothing! No signs. Started treatment 3 days and Girlie was gone. I hope this will help others because if you can catch it in time you can save the dog. But the one shot that could have caused this was the DHLPP.Not Rabies. DHLPP should be a 3 year shot not every year. This is a hard thing to watch and my Girlie got so week she couldn’t stand and her odds went down fast. So I told my Girlie that I was taking her home while the vet put her to sleep. At least Girlie knew I was holding her and I was bring her home.
The worst part was hold her and saying bye and when I got her home my Dobie tried to wake her up and sat beside her and moaned until I got her buried. I miss her affection and her laying next to me and the Dobie goes to her grave everyday.
Forever remember and love you,
Girlie |
