Alphie by Loretta and Randy Stribling / Mama

Dear Alphie,

Mama knows you didn’t want to leave us…remember how the open gate would make you nervous? And Mama and Daddy are so sad and miss you so much! Sweetie-Boy, you were such a good boy, a VERY good boy. I miss the jingling of your collar around the house. I miss doing your chores with you in the morning. I miss your eager-to-please look, your defiant look when you want to play, my little Play-Boy, your mopey glare when we weren’t paying enough attention to you, your alert (feigning non-chalance) position while waiting for you Happy-Fun-Ball.

I miss you waking me up in the morning (whispering woof-woof). I particularly miss your cocked ears, your folded back pit bull ears, and you could be such a Lovey-Boy at times.
You stayed with me while I was recovering from surgery, licked my hand and had such a worried expression. I miss double sniffed, lipstick kisses in the morning, waiting that was not waiting, excitement at going in the car (or the NEW car), or spotting a squirrel, obsession with the kitties next door (you’d sit by the fence all day watching if we let you).

I even miss the look of pure joy after a good dig, dirt caked between your toes, or when you’d throw your head back and let out a good howl. I miss taking you to visit Daddy in the shop and the Wiggle-Boy you’d become when Daddy came home (you’d hear his truck way before I could).

I miss all day, every day talking to you, planning my days around your needs, all your weirdness and phobias. I miss my Baby-Boy!! I miss how much you loved me, and comforting you when you were scared or sick.

I miss rubbing your head and your tummy, putting on and taking off your collar, telling you to drink your water or chew your toy. I miss the trust you instilled in me day after day.

I’m so sorry I couldn’t help you at the end, Baby-Boy. Mama would give anything for you to be okay, back with Mama and Daddy, getting ready for Christmas.
