Bobby by Paula White / Mommy

My Bobby dog,

He came to me through a marriage. He was my husbands’ dog. He was born on a farm in Wales. He moved with us to Arizona (where I am from) and loved the sun as he hated the rain in England. Quite the country gent he turned out to be. He was the leader of the “Regulators”. A posse of pets in our house who watched out for us.

He and I fell in love from the very beginning. He loved me more when I decided that he should always be entitled to a weekly hamburger from a fast food place! If the humans got one, why not he? Of course he was partial to Chinese food and an Indian curry now and then. Jack-in-the-Box tacos where ok for a Sunday afternoon.

I am a diabetic, so he always knew when something was up. He would warn me! He looked after me and cared for me as well as anyone else in the house who became ill. He was almost like a nanny. The other pets looked up to him.
He hated baths!

On May 16 we knew it was time for him to leave us. He went down hill rapidly, within one week. I asked the vet to come to the house to put him down because I wanted him to die in familiar surroundings and with his family. I held him and cried so hard as he left this world. I saw him crying, too. A big tear drop from his right eye. My heart is breaking. He followed me everywhere. It feels like my other half is missing.

My little Scottie dog is blue. She lays on his pillow and blanket and weeps. I am empty, dead, in a sense. I miss him terribly. I remember his last breath. Long and slow. I told him to go to our Tigger and Smudge who went before him. I keep looking for him and expect to see him somewhere in the house. I don’t know how to cope.

I cry at the most unexpected moments. I am numb. I miss you Bobby boy. I wish, I wish, and what if, what if….I remember when he took his last breath I had vision of him running and feeling free. His pain is gone. My pain is not. I love you Bobby. I love you with all my heart. And when it’s my turn, meet me. Take care of Tigger and Smudge. xoxooxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
