A Letter From My Dog

"A Letter from My Dog"

Remember allthat's important to me.

Remember that I'monly on this earth for a very short time.

This is somethingyou understand better than I do. You tell me one of my

"years" is equalto seven of your years. So be it. That means every time

the sun goes awayI've lived another week of my life. Just think about all

we can do in a"week."

Remember that Ilike to play and have fun.

I have no conceptof obligations appointments or any kind of timetable.

Please be patientwith me when it seems as though I'm unaware of time.

I can neverunderstand why time is so important to you. If like me you're

living life tofullest and making the most of every moment,

what differencedoes time make ?

The way I figureit I can always make time for you.

Remember that my"world" exists about two feet above the ground.

Please be awarewhen I'm around because I can easily get hurt by some

careless orimpulsive movement that you make.

I always knowwhere you are so please make a concentrated effort

to be aware ofwhere I am.

Remember that Iwant to make you happy because that makes me happy.

Please show methat you're happy with me and I will be

the best companionyou could ever want.

I understand thatyou may at times be sad or upset or angry with life,

but pleaseunderstand those words are not part of my vocabulary.

I always want tobe happy and enjoy life,

and I want you todo the same.

Remember that I aman animal when it comes to food and "nature's call."

So many thingssmell good when your sense of smell is as highly developed as

mine. I don't meanto eat things that are bad for me but

sometimes I justcan't help it. Please try to be responsible and feed me

only things thatare good for me. I will eat only what is appropriate to my

dietary needsproviding that you direct me in the proper way.

My paws do notopen doors and I have no vocal chords like you to tell you in

so many words thatI'm hungry. Therefore I rely on your sensitivity and

knowledge to giveme food and water when necessary.

Also you have totake me out or let me outside to "relieve" myself. I

would reallyprefer to not do it inside where you and I have to live. But

when I have to"go" I simply have to "go." I need you to help me take care

of this so we canboth have an "odor-free" living environment.

Remember that I ambasically like a child.

There is not verymuch I can do for myself and I need your guidance

attention andlove all day every day for as long as I live.

Every so often Iget tired and I need to sleep. I don't know why.

I sleepintermittently I dream about things and places I've seen and what

we have donetogether and when I wake up I want you to greet me and be happy

to see me the wayI always am with you.

My emotional lifethough not as profound as yours is important to me,

and it's all thatI have for the brief time I'm on this earth.

I basicallyunderstand only love and fear. It's not in my nature to be angry

with you soplease try not to be angry with me. It makes me fear you when

you're angry andI would really rather spend my few years on earth

lovingyou.

I think sometimesif you would use your superior brain power to think about

the wonder andmagic of life you would realize also that love

is the mostimportant thing in life.

Remember it's allthat's important to me.
