I have read several stories about the feelings that people have after their pet’s death. I’ve noticed in several, that the common feeling is that they will never love another animal. I’ve been married 45 years and in that time we have had 5 dogs, four of whom are now gone. Those dogs were a part of our family and they couldn’t be loved more. We were heart-broken when they died and I have ashes of three of them buried in our backyard. It is true that the love for your pet will never leave you, however, your desire to have another dog (or cat or whatever) to greet you when you come home, to have someone to talk to and to play with, to pet and just hold on to and most of all, the need for that unconditional love will someday lead you (hopefully) to the dog pound. And, for a while, you will compare that dog to the one you lost—–but suddenly something happens and you love again that dear friend you have found. Of course, you still love and miss your other dogs—–each one is different and you love each one differently. Don’t lose the opportunity to again have a wonderful pet in your home and, please, check the humane society, for there is a pet there who is also looking for you. I have a poem (64087) about three of my dogs—–each one loved as much as the other. We have Riley now who came from the humane society. He is a wonderful friend but I still miss and love my old friends.
