Barley came to us as a rescue from the Toronto Humane Society. He had been adopted out 5 times before we found him. As soon as our eyes met I knew I had found a very special dog. My husband went to get a staff member so we could talk about adoption and Barley and I bonded. When we brought him home he fit in wonderfully.

He was the last face I saw when I went to work and the first to greet me when I came home. He would follow me everywhere. He loved his food, his walks, and his treats, especially the liver ones.

He would wake me up early in the morning to feed him, and let me know when it was time to go to bed at night. He would happily sleep on the couch outside our bedroom as long as I was in there. If I had to get up in the night he was right there watching me. He could beat anyone in a stare down. He just didn’t blink. Oh, I loved this dog.

He was 11 when he came to us and a year later we discovered he was deaf. And then the cancer came along with other problems. He was on medication, but he was so happy, until the last day when I knew I had to let him go. It was the hardest thing I have ever done and I miss him so much. I keep expecting him to come walking up the stairs to see what I am doing. I expect to wake up and find him staring at my face waiting for his food. We only were blessed with him for three years, but those three years were a gift. I know he is at Rainbow Bridge and I know I will see him again. It will be a long wait for me, but I will be able to once again hold him close and kiss his ears.

I love you Barley, I will never forget you. Thank you for being in our lives for the short time you were. We will see you again soon little Man.

Forever Loved,
