by Ed / Daddy….and Sunshine

In 1992 I got Sunshine, a solid white domestic longhair, from the Tampa Humane Society. When I moved in 1995 I told her I would get her a brother. I dropped by the Tampa Humane Society and there was Casper, in the same cage that Sunshine was in previously! Casper was a solid white domestic shorthair. I took him home. He and Sunshine ate together, slept together, played together. Casper was a climber, always on top of something. And he loved to chase a laser. Casper would let you know when he wanted loving. He was not a lap cat.

Suddenly one day in early 2007 he jumped in my lap when I was in my recliner watching TV. He stared at me for a minute, then he laid down in my lap. From them on, he was my lap cat.

Casper was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure 9/17/2007. It was a labor of love for me to give him an IV every other day. In 9/2008 he quit eating. A trip to the vet revealed he had cancerous masses under his chin and on the left side of his neck. The Vet said he wouldn’t last more than 3-5 days and suggested I discontinue his meds. We changed his food, he continued to function pretty much except for weight loss. He was active, eating well and drinking water. He was still jumping all over the place. I prayed that God would take Casper while he was sleeping.

Unfortunately that did not happen and on 3/6/2009 the Vet told me “it is time”. Casper died in my arms. That was 163 days after the Vet told me he had only a few days to live. I buried him in the back yard. Sunshine and I miss him. It is comforting to know he is at rest and he is pain free. God gave me Casper, and now Casper is back with his maker.

RIP my little friend, I will always love you,
Ed
