We gentle creatures and loyal companions do humbly pray,
That we're granted a loving home where we can romp and play.
May our masters speak softly and render us an occasional caress,
To assure us we are family and that we belong at this address.
In return may we enhance our masters' lives in times that are sweet,
And lessen their burden in sad times to help hasten sorrow's retreat,
May our love and our friendship be the special gift in their lives,
That helps bring them peace and joy creating a home that thrives.
To our prayer we would add just one more small yet heartfelt plea,
One to ease our plight when from this transient life we must flee,
May those who have loved and cared for us for those many years,
Greet us above the clouds someday in that place without strife or tears.
