Murphy was the sweetest, gentlest dog there had been on this earth.

He came to our family at the age of 1 year old. The family who had him did not want him anymore. He was a hand full at first with chewing and taking off on us but in about 6 months he outgrew the chewing. Murphy was a roamer all his life but never wondered off
our property for many years.

He brought me to two small baby birds which were still alive who fell out of their nest. He loved our sons rat Lucky. Murphy would cry at the cage so we would let Lucky out so they could play and Murphy would give him a bath. Murphy was far from a watch dog because he loved everyone and even the mail man. Yep the mail man.

When his brother Butch lost his hearing it was Murphy who wake Butch up and let him know that the mail man was coming. My husband didn’t believe me until he was home one day and witnessed it himself. Murphy was sure special dog put on this earth to show us what real love means because he loved everyone.

Murhpy loved beer and for the last 6 mos. of his life we gave him beer. Yeah I know it wasn’t good for him but we knew he didn’t have much time left on this earth and we wanted him to be happy and to enjoy the things he loved and that was beer and carrots. He would go through the biggest bag of carrots in a week. Anyone who came in our house would have to give him a carrot and Murhpy would bring them to the fridge and take a carrot or two or three by putting his whole head in the bag. He was a character!!

He had a mass on his spleen at age 13 years old and the mass took over his body and the cancer also. He started with diarrhea and
then lost his back legs.

We tried everything and if it wasn’t for that dam mass we would have done anything to keep him with us just a little longer as long as he didn’t suffer. He knew he was dying slowly and we did too and had to make that unthinkable decision to put him to sleep. My husband, son and I were with him. He went to sleep so fast it was a blessing. I told him that we had to let him go and what did my sweet Murphy do? He licked my face to let me know that he knew and that it was okay. I told him that we loved him and to tell Butch we love and miss him and let Grandpa know you can have all the beer you want now.

September 12, 2007 was the worst day of course for us and his brother Shamus. He has been depressed and didn’t eat for a day. Murphy was king and he ate first before Shamus and it seemed that Shamsus was waiting for Murphy before he ate. He is just starting
to adjust with our help.

Murphy will forever be the sweetest, gentlest, compassionate dog I have ever known. He is the reason, the real true reason why dog spelled back wards spells “God”.

We will receive his ashes and forever be with Butch and in our hearts forever. We love and miss you so much Murphy we cant seem to even talk about you with out crying right now but in time we will talk about you with a smile. Just remember to come to me in my dreams with Butch and visit. You will be forever be our hearts Smurf.

Our Hearts are Broken,
