Sound of silence, deep as night
Gliding swiftly out of sight
Eyes that flash with emerald light
With twitch of nose and flick of ear
Each sound and movement you do hear.
Agile as the bounding deer
Supple as a snake through the grass you veer
Avoiding obstacles both far and near.

Fur as soft as velvet
Groomed to your perfection
Indolently lounging
Soaking up the suns heat
Just like our admiration.

Stalking like a regal lion
You chase a mouse, a butterfly
Human feet or canine paw
Jumping, patting, pouncing
Through the air you fly.
Then proudly approach your victim
awaiting acclamation.

Lying on a lap you purr
Receiving your reward
Nothing better than a willing slave
To hold you and adore.

You stalked through our lives
Commandeering our home
Accepting our love as though it your due
But now you are gone and we will miss you.

Never again to feel you near
Hear your chirrup
Or soothing purr
Your emerald eyes or orange fur
Sleep well old man
In our hearts we hold you dear.
