by Kirk Wittbecker / Dad, Mom, Adam and Sarah

Josie we remember the day we chose you. You were the lone puppy in the back of the cage. You just sat there not getting up or getting excited and running to the side. Mom picked you out, although she won’t admit it. Your first meal was a hamburger because it was too far away from the house and the rest of us was hungry. We thought about what to name you. Sarah thought of it, Josie, right after Clint Eastwood’s movie. It was the perfect fit for you. You grew up with your sister; she became the most attached. You would follow Mom around whenever she was outside and Dad around when he didn’t want to be followed. You were like our lovable shadow. Going for long walks in the woods with you sister and your brother. Playing in the creek, and pretending that you hated baths but somewhere deep down inside we kind of felt you liked them…or at least the way that they made you feel.

As time went on we loved you more and more. After that day you got sick we had to leave you so your sister could see you one more time. We loved you and when the decision had to be made it was the hardest one of our lives. We know now that you must be whole again.

Your sight and hearing restored and you youthfulness in full return. We miss you more than anything. But we know that one day we will see you again. Just like the story of Rainbow Bridge. When the day comes that we are all reunited we will be happy once again.

Goose you are our baby.
We love you.
