This is a story about my beautiful, and unforgettable Jaz. She was the sweetest, most loving dog you could ever hope for. At the young age of 2, Jasmine lost both ear canals due to what some vets say infection, others thyroid problems. Nevertheless, you would never know Jaz had a problem, because she heard every word. She was poked, and prodded, time after time at the vets. She never once gave anyone a hard time, only lots of kisses, and love.
At the age of 6 she developed Cushings Disease, which led to her death one month shy of 8 years old. She suffered from liver and heart problems, but Jaz kept up her fight until the end. She lived on for me. She knew how much I loved her and needed her in my life. Now with her gone, I pay special tribute to her memory— because of Jaz we were able to get our FDA to approve a drug for Cushings used widely in England.
Because of Jaz, we know what kind of signs to look for in a dog with a pituitary gland tumor. Because of Jaz further studies will be done in our area to take a better look at this disease, because I also have Jasmine’s sister Star, also with the same disease. I think of Jasmine every day, and I cry each time I think of the pain she went through. At the end I was with her, kissing her face, and telling her it would be ok–ok to let go. Jasmine knew what we set out to do on her final day. She laid down on the table on her own, turned on her side towards me, and headed for the Rainbow Bridge before my vet could finish the deed. She was already there.
I know she’s in a special place, and
I look forward for the day
that we can be together.
With all my love,
