22 years ago I got litter mates, Bear and Chuck. I chose Bear because he looked like a baby panda. My mum picked Chuck because he reminded her of a guy in elementary school??? and named him so. The fun we had…tin foil balls, lazing in the sun, wrestling with each other…
just being yourselves.
Then Hollywood and Maestro joined us. 2 beautiful calicos. Maestro was not with us long…drowned in the neighbor’s pool. Hollywood carried on with Bear and Chuck for the next 20 years. Yes, 3 cats all over 20 years old. I have been told that is unusual. Hollywood was 20; Chuck was 21, and Bear was 22. These cats were not mine…I was theirs.
They would wait for me to come home, all lined up in the window. Or Bear would wait in the bushes and jump out at the right time. I think his little game. Chuck would know when a ham sandwich was being made and would be in your face until it was gone. He always got some ham.
Hollywood was able to tell me when anything was ready on the bbq. We wouldn’t see her all day….until the bbq was ready and
here’s Hollywood, time to eat.
To my best of friends, you each left at a different time, for a different reason and each time was as hard as the last. We were together for 20 odd years,a long time…but not long enough.
With love in my heart, and tears in my eyes,
I miss you.
