Dearest Sable,

The morning dew glistens on the grass as a new day breaks. I see the pattern of your paw prints in the dew, like a patchwork quilt, weaved from your morning play.

Fall arrives and brings with it a bountiful harvest of color. Beautiful hues of red, orange, gold and brown adorn the trees. I catch a glimpse of a leaf that the wind has released and I watch as floats away. Reminded of the grace that you possessed with each step that you took. I often wondered how such an enormous frame could
move with such elegance.

Winter comes quickly along with the joy and excitement of the holidays. A soft glow from the fireplace radiates comfort and warmth through our home as I carefully prepare the ornaments for placement on the tree. A clear acrylic star holds a photograph, a cherished memory of your first visit to see Santa. Though half his size, you were terrified and refused to be photographed without me by your side. I hung it
with pride and I cried.

Winter gives way to spring and life’s cycle begins again. The bees and butterflies are busy pollinating while the birds chirp and sing sweet delight. Chipmunks and squirrels are flirting about seeking their mates and play. Budding leaves renews bare tree limbs and brown landscapes reflect a green hue. Blue skies turn gray as a spring shower approaches. The pitter-patter of raindrops bring me back to the day that you left your Earthly body to join the spirits of those who left before you.

The summer sun shines bright on my face as I bask in the heat. Cotton candy clouds grace the endless blue skies. The air is filled with the sweet aroma of flowers and the colors of the universe all blend together to paint a picture of perfection. The flowers in the garden that you so loved to dig up look very nice on your grave.

In death as in life you remain with me, if only in memory.

Lady Sable – The greatest dog I’ve ever known.
