Kitty a little 6 week old gray stray kitten came into
our lives in July 1985 when she nipped at Val’s heel
and introduced herself to us.
Though we did not know it at the time it was was one of the most I
important days of our lives.
For the next almost 17 years our lives were each day full
of wonder worry concern love bemusement warmth and
smiles all because that little gray girl agreed that we could
share our lives with her.
Not that the decision to do so was initially easy.
Jim is allergic to cats and dogs.
He was not initially so eager to suffer the running nose and
itching red eyes which Kitty Girl certainly would bring with her.
In fact the reason our gray girl is called Kitty is because Jim
did not want her named so it be easier when we
found her another home.
But Kitty was special and she quickly showed her charms and
special character that caused Jim to willingly and lovingly
accept the irritating physical complaints he endured each time
her petted her and sat where she had.
Kitty grabbed Val’s heart from the first nip and she never had any
reservations to accept Kitty’s invitation to travel life’s
journey together!
Kitty was the most amazing cat.
She would come running at the call of her name.
She loved playful games of hide and seek and indoor hockey
using a small foil ball as a puck.
She climbed and she hunted and brought us numerous treasures
(rats squirrels and snakes) which she proudly offered as her
contribution to our joint home.
She trained us to give her desired attention by thumping a
spring door stop which signaled a request for food or
to be let outside–sometimes in the middle of the night!
She followed us from room to room and around the yard each
day as we went about our activities just so she would
not miss anything.
At night she curled up in a lap as we watched television and
at bedtime always choose Val’s head and pillow as the most
comfortable spot to sleep.
She was a beautiful gray girl and demanded attention from all
by rolling at each visitor’s feet and meowing in invitation for
a stomach or head rub.
At times we thought Kitty believed she lived at a spa and
we were her personal massage therapists.
She loved to be petted and we complied as often as possible.
Oh what we would not give to be once again beckoned by the
wonderful girl for one more rub.
For 17 years Kitty Girl was our constant companion
and best friend.
She was with Val and Jim for most of their married life and
they loved her with all their hearts.
Kitty enjoyed a long and wonderful life lived in safety but in a way
that allowed her to follow her instincts.
If Kitty had been a lion she would have ruled the jungle
in which she lived just as she ruled Val and Jim her loyal subjects.
Kitty is so very much missed by us and our hearts are broken.
But we would suffer this feeling forever in return for the
daily joy Kitty Girl gave us.
She was truly one of the best things we have had and
will ever have in our lives.
We simply want to say thank you to Kitty for being the
best friend we could hope for and also for allowing us
to be in her life. We know that each day she chose to be with
us and for that we are honored and thankful.
For now we are separated from our beloved girl.
But our thoughts will each day turn to our memories of that
so very special kitten who walked into our lives and made
such an incredible impact on us.
We miss you ever so much Kitty Girl.
Please rest well Kitty Kitty.
Val and Jim Talley
