What a beautiful shadow He casts upon the floor.
His outline a dancing energy even as he lays still.
His heart beat and purring fill the room in a symphony of Heaven
While his tracing simply rises and falls
Like a gentle tide his figure undulates.
But his shadow remains the same
Sturdy, round, soft and squat
Warm white tipped down surrounding the purest little heart.
With little ears just like Daddy’s, he listens to us half in sleep.
In an instant he’s up and bounding to our call.
“Come lay with Daddy and Mommy on the bed.”
He and his shadow pounce into our laps and loving slumber.
Here He sleeps between our hearts until morning
But Our world has changed, it’s different now.
We wake to feel his love and watch his shadow grace the floor.
Our Dewey has passed away, we can not hold him anymore.
Now, all that is left are our memories
As painted shadows upon the floor.

*Dewey, Baby, we will always miss your presence,
but we know you are always with us.
