Golden Retriever
I first met my dog when she was just a pup and
she wasn’t ours she was a friend’s.
After seeing her periodically for years up until Memorial Day 1998
that’s all she was a friend’s dog that I liked.
As it turns out this great dog had become a burden on my friends
and their family. Needless to say my wife to be and I gladly stepped
in and adopted her. From the first night she ran into our condo
we both fell in love with her and could find no faults to speak of.
Obedient friendly funny cute just a pure joy to be around.
We had a great summer of going to the lake and unknown to
us Casey was part fish. She would swim and swim and swim.
The first thing when we got to the lake she just ran right in.
She would swim with you way out into the middle of the lake.
She never bit never growled but did she beg and play those
games for treats and scraps. She ran into the church on our
wedding day jumped on Jenni’s dress and had a great picture
taken with us. She was the biggest pet hog.
A cold nose gently nudging your hand to get a few strokes
across her head and back until she got turned around so you
were scratching her rear.
My grandpa always said she was “ass backwards”.
I’ll never forget the walks to the park and then her charging
me when I’d run away from her.
I’ll never forget driving my wife nuts talking and hugging that dog.
I’ll never forget her at the lake in the chair curled up in ball,
having nightmares or making the 10:00 news and animal planet
from the Dog day at the dome. The picture of her in the Twins jersey in
the driveway is unbelievable.
What I’ll never forget is the great friend she was to both of us and
how suddenly she was taken away.
In one day she got sick and died but not before barely able to
stand before we took her to the emergency vet where she died,
she sat in the doorway one last time when I came in lifted her tail
wagged and then laid down. We both thought she would be ok.
She’d come back from allergies a reconstructed knee and
this was just another bump in the road.
For some reason it was her time.
I’m so glad that I have the opportunity to tell the world that you
should’ve met our dog. The cast off with the best personality and
the beady eyes. Graying on the nose. The big orange puppy that
was becoming a dreamsicle. We never expected our time together
to be so short.
WE LOVE YOU AND YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
Casey Casey with the cute orange facey please
come home we miss you.
Love,
Mom & Dad
