Charlie

Summer of 1986 —– May 2 2000

When I first got Charlie he was so little he could sit in my lap.

He grew up to be 98lbs. We had 14 great years together.

He was the shoulder I cried on when I was upset and my favorite companion.

He was my best friend. No matter what kind of a day I had just thinking

of him put a smile on my face.

On May 2nd I came home from work to find that Charlie could not stand up.

He had been battling hip dispalysia for about 4 years.

I knew I was going to have to do the hardest thing

I have ever done.

I made the dreaded call and took my little buddy to the vet.

I will never forget the look on his face when I said good bye.

When I walk in my front door I feel a wave of sadness

When I get into bed and I look at the floor next to me it is SO empty.

At night I wake up the tinkling of his tags only to realize

it’s a dream.

I know that the pain I’m feeling will fade to a dull throb

but Charlie’s memory will always be sharp in my mind.

One day we will be together again…
