Checky by Laura / Laura

I was on my way to go Christmas shopping. Because I was in a hurry, I closed the garage door and sped away. After the shoppping I stopped at my grandparent’s place. Then I phoned mom at home to see if I could stay for lunch before going home again. She said yes. Then she said she had news. I thought I was in trouble. But it was way worse. She said that Checky was killed. “She…?” Was all could say. I thought mom was joking so I said, “No.” Then she said, “After you left, she went under that garage door. It was her head.”
I rushed out of the room. There was silence. Then I started crying and couldn’t stop. I hung up and just cried. I tried not to
but I couldn’t help it.

Checky, I am sorry for getting you in trouble sometimes. I am sorry for not giving you enough hugs, enough kisses, and enough love.
I am sorry for letting you die that horrible death.

I wonder what you felt.
I wish with my whole heart
that you din’t feel anything.
Checky, I am sorry.
I am sorry for everything.

This happened today.
I just came home right now.
I can’t stop crying.

I will love you forever and ever, Checky,
Checky
