Black Lab
In October of 1989 my ex-husband brought home a tiny
four pound puppy he found under a car in the freezing snow.
The owners didn’t want her so they threw her there to die.
We deliberated about a week and came up with Cinders
for a name.
She had to have a name that suited her. It was her.
She was so funny as a pup always getting into trouble
as puppies will. She kept chewing the insoles out of my
ex-husbands shoes (GOOD GIRL!).
When I got divorced and was alone with my two kids,
she protected us with her life.
She was so fiesty right up to the end.
She was the smartest dog ever!! She ran the house
and everyone in it.
On Memorial weekend we were camping.
As usual she was chewing everyone out about something.
Oh how we laughed that day.
She ran and jumped and jumped and ran and we laughed.
Then around 10:30 that night she collapsed.
We finally got her up but I knew deep in my heart I knew.
My husband said it was probably the hamburger I gave her
that made her sick and if she was no better in the morning,
we would leave and take her to the vet.
She wasn’t worse in the morning but she wasn’t better.
We left and took her to the vet.
After two days of tests and x-rays we learned she had liver
and kidney disease her lungs were filling with fluid
and something had ruptured in her intestines
and she was bleeding internally.
There was no cure and no hope.
So on the day I was to bring her home I had
to put her down.
So this little four pound Black Lab came into to my life at deaths door
twelve years ago. I didn’t save her she saved me.
She brought almost twelve years of joy to me and my kids
and eventually my second husband.
We miss you baby girl!
Until we meet on the bridge you are forever in our hearts
especially mine!
Mommie
