Cleo by Char / Char

Cleo, you don’t even share my home, but you share my brother’s and sister-in-law’s house, and that makes us related in some way. I’m so frightened for you. I see how much weight you have lost, how little you are eating, and I want to cry.

Cleo, you are the most perfect of ambassadors for the Doberman breed. You’re always a lady, and a gentle soul as well. I remember meeting you when you were just a young pup. It seemed that no matter how infrequently we visited, you always remembered me. Now that I’m in Tucson and see you all of the time, we have become the best of friends.

I think the greatest thing to ever happen for you was being “raised” by the family Golden Retriever. Your personality is so much like Klebe’s was. I love it that you go out and bring in the morning paper or pick up a dropped object for your mommy. You want to be helpful in so many ways, and you are.

I don’t know what you thought when your real sister, Callie, came to live in your house. The two of you have really put a new slant on things Doberman. You are both such love bugs. There is no way that either of you can get enough petting, hugging and just plain old one on one time. You’d be wonderful lap dogs if only someone had a big enough lap for even one of you.

You know that your mommy has special needs, and when she goes to the door, you and your sister go with her. No stranger would ever attempt to enter that home without an express invitation. Thank you for taking care of someone so important to me.

Cleo, I only can pray that the vet will have a simple cure for what is wrong with you. I’m scared, and I don’t even want to think about a future without you. You may not live with me, but you have brought joy and happiness to me, and I’m a better person because you are in my life.

I’ll treasure every moment, every memory that I have of you. My favorite picture is the one where you backed up to me, hiked your hind quarters up on my lap, kept your front paws on the floor and enjoyed being treated like a “small” dog. The thought of that picture brings a smile to my face every time.

I love the way you can count. You know that if Callie gets two bites of something that you will also get two bites.

Thank you for being so good to my little Fritz. It’s amazing to see a huge Doberman standing beside my little 8.8 pound dachshund. It’s a great picture. He finally has realized after almost eight months that you are one of the good girls and won’t hurt him.

Please know that if your time to leave is drawing near that you will never be forgotten. I’ll hold your memory close to my heart always. I know your mommy and daddy will be heartbroken. I’ll try to help them in
any way that I can.

Callie will be lost without you. She looks to you for direction in all things. You’ve done a very good job of mentoring her. Although you have never allowed Callie to get the paper or pick up dropped articles, she knows how to do it because she’s watched you.

I’ll do all that I can to give a lot of attention to Callie, and to let her know that she is loved.

Again, Cleo, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the wonderful things you have brought to me. You have taught me to love Dobermen, to respect your intelligence and to appreciate
your gentle and kind heart.

Just so you know, when you get to the Bridge, Klebe and Bingo will be there to meet you. The three of you can play and
run while you wait for us.

You are a beautiful girl, and I love you.

You're always on my mind.........
