In March of 99 Gizmo was diagnosed with diabetes.
By July it just got progressively worse his back legs greatly affected
along with other serious conditions.
After a tearful trip home from the vet
it look like we needed to make a decision about him.
We decided that when his condition worsened
we would not let him suffer.
He was just too happy and lovable and alert to even
think about letting him go.
That same afternoon my healthy strong Shawna
had a stroke while laying in my arms.
I was unsure what had happened to her but I felt her stiffen and
she was unresponsive for awhile. From that moment on
she would not eat or drink and just dragged herself
about the house. She didn’t even know her
name anymore. On Monday the vet confirmed
what had happened.
By Wednesday we knew what we had to do.
The positive part of this whole thing is that we found
the greatest vet and staff that I have ever known!
They were so compassionate and supportive.
They let us send them both off together.
We were there and it was horrible.
I know I owed it to them to be by their side however
I don’t think I will ever go through that again!
I know I will never have 2 such very close friends again either.
For over 16 years my home had never been kitty-less
and the emptiness was obvious and painful.
I don’t know that I’ll ever recover losing them even
after 5 months later.
However they are together and I hope that one day
we will all meet again.
