Isis by Greg and Maria Zannini / Greg and Maria

I have dreaded this day for 12 years. Of all the dogs we’ve had and loved you were the most special one of all. We bonded the minute I saw you, I don’t know why. Maybe I knew your soul in my last life. I know that everyone that met you was charmed by you, even those that said, “Oh look, a ROTTWEILER”. Those few that chose
not to know you lost out.

Little did anyone else know what you were really like. You were the biggest baby I ever knew and the biggest bed hog. You would give us that woofing huff whenever you wanted to get up on our bed each night. It didn’t matter that you had your own “dog bed”, the same type all your sisters were content to sleep on. An open car door was never safe around you because in you went; you were always up for a ride. Shotgun was always your spot. We remember you jumping the fence and going next door, scratching on the neighbor’s door and walking in like you owned the place — coming in just for a short visit.

Then I thought I would die when two years ago we found out you had cancer. So mommy cooked for you every day, no more “dog” food for you; then the pills, vitamins supplements surgeries and chemo. But you beat the cancer like the trooper you have always have been. You always had a smile on your face and that little stub would always wag.

So now I must help you one last time, one last short car ride. Your poor old legs are now shot but soon on the other side of that bridge you will run again through the fields in the sunshine where you will be warm and pain free once more. Run and play like the good girl you are, with all our other dogs that have gone before you. Some day your mommy and I will be crossing that bridge to be with all of you again.

With love always,
Isis
